Trojans find QB: Backup spot still up for grabs

By Luke Brietzke Special to the Advertiser April 17, 2008

TROY -- After evaluating spring practice, Troy offensive coordinator Neal Brown made his decision to cut the quarterback race down to two -- sort of.

Really, he cut the backup quarterback race down to two

Brown decided that camp ended with Jamie Hampton as the clear frontrunner.

"If we played tomorrow, he'd be the guy who gives us the best chance to win," Brown said. "He's a good runner and he's progressed as a passer. Those two combined give us a better chance to win."

With Hampton listed as the team's top quarterback, he's now in charge of organizing summer workouts with receivers and with the offense.

Brown hopes the new responsibilities teamed with his new role will allow Hampton to develop as a leader.

Yea, it was a good article. I am glad Hampton got the starting spot. With his mobility, and some experience coming early, he will be our best shot at winning. Who knows, maybe he'll be the next Brett Favre.
